Take a look at our programme of events for the Autumn/Winter season 2015.

South Manchester Speakers Club meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month but there are lots of other events throughout the year that you may be interested in looking at.

Check out some of our club and guest speakers

Have a look at some sample speeches caught on video and perhaps even more importantly evaluations of those speeches.

These are performed by our own club members and also by guest speakers visiting from other speaking clubs.

The video quality is not exactly what we hoped for but the audio is decent and easily understood.

The Public Speaking Genius

Why do people feel the need to join a speakers club in the first place?

Here are just a few of the reasons that our current members had for joining the South Manchester Speakers Club

R

They had an important job interview.

R

Had an important function to attend where they were expected to make a speech – such as ‘Best Man’ at a wedding.

R

Felt panic if they were asked to speak out loud.

R

Had been asked to speak at a business function or make a presentation.

R

Felt that they were too shy to get their point across forcefully enough.

R

Had an inherent interest in learning how to speak publically but with composure.

R

They wanted to improve their communication skills and personal confidence.

R

Some had to speak as part of their job but it was making their work too stressful.

R

Some just wanted to give it a try.

If any of this rings a ‘bell’ with YOU then why not just come and sit in on a session and see how much fun we have.

You can even take part if you wish, but please – be completely rest assured – nobody is ever pressured to speak – we have after all, been in your shoes, at one time or another.

Can you imagine how much easier it would be, to speak to an audience, after a period of ‘stress free’ practice in front of like-minded individuals.

Experienced individuals who can offer you excellent support and constructive advice?

The old adage ‘practice makes perfect’ is certainly true in the public speaking arena.

The Club’s emphasis has always been to ‘learn by doing’ and the positive feedback you receive from experienced members ensures your continual improvement and development

We all use communication skills in the work place and in our social lives but as George Bernard Shaw quite rightly pointed out many years ago –

“The problem with communication is the illusion that it has occurred”.

At South Manchester Speakers Club we will help you to build confidence, clarity of thought and perhaps most important of all, the ability to listen. Membership is also about enjoying the company of friendly, supportive and interesting people so come and join us.

You’ll be glad that you did.
