South Manchester Speakers Club members have been successfully meeting at the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham, twice monthly for over 10 years.

If you’ve ever been asked to present a business plan, in front of colleagues and clients or had the honour to perform the 'Best Man' role at your friend’s wedding then then you will certainly appreciate just how daunting a prospect this can be.

The South Manchester Speakers Club was formed to help people cope with occasions such as these in a warm, confident and successful manner.

Can you imagine how much easier it would be, to speak to an audience, after a period of 'stress free' practice in front of like-minded individuals – experienced individuals who can offer you excellent support and constructive advice?

The old adage ‘practice makes perfect’ is certainly true in the public speaking arena.

The Club’s emphasis has always been to ‘learn by doing’ and the positive feedback you receive from experienced members ensures your continual improvement and development

We all use communication skills in the work place and in our social lives but as George Bernard Shaw quite rightly pointed out many years ago – “The problem with communication is the illusion that it has occurred”. I think we’ve all had problems with that one from time to time.

At South Manchester Speakers Club we will help you to build confidence, clarity of thought and perhaps most important of all, the ability to listen. Membership is also about enjoying the company of friendly, supportive and interesting people so come and join us. You'll be glad that you did.

The South Manchester Speakers Club with the support of the Association of Speakers Clubs can help everyone, from the very beginner to the seasoned speaker.

Using a proven, structured program, the South Manchester Speakers Club will take you from your first tentative speech right up to the classic ‘Masterpiece’ which is of course what we all aspire to.

We use a simply but proven system that covers:

  • Making a start
  • Mean what you say
  • Speech construction
  • Use of gestures
  • Use your voice
  • Vocabulary and word pictures
  • The use of notes
  • Smile please!
  • Audience rapport
  • The Masterpiece

Along the way you will make many new friends and learn other useful functions – including chairmanship, time keeping and eventually, how to evaluate another person's speech.
